Katherine Choong climbs E-Space Challenge (8c +)

Katherine Choong scores in the French Le Précipice de Corbière E-Space Challenge (8c +). The heavily overhanging line was drilled by Nicolas Glée and first climbed in 2018 by the German competition climber Sebastian Halenke.

During a short trip to France, more precisely to Vercors, repeated Katherine Choong E Space Challenge (8c+). The strongly overhanging line is a real endurance test. "I fell three times at the key point a few meters below the deflector," says the strong Jura. "When the dynamic move finally worked, I stayed calm and reached the top." Katherine Choong climbed E-Space Challenge on day six in the route and without using a kneepad.

E-Space Challenge: No picnic for Choong

The level of difficulty of the line, from first ascent Sebastian Halenke originally rated 9a, has now leveled off at 8c+. Katherine Choong says in this regard that E-Space Challenge was not a "piece of cake" for her. "E-Space Battle is an endurance fight on a heavily overhanging wall, which starts with an 8a+ and gets progressively more difficult up to the crux below the deflector."

Price for first time climbers

As the name of the route suggests, it was not only the physical challenge that awaited potential first ascents. Nicolas Glee, who drilled the line, offered prize money: E-Space climbing holds worth 1000 euros could be won.
