David Bermúdez (14) climbs his second 9a route with Víctimas Pérez

The Spanish youngster David Bermúdez repeats in Margalef Víctimas Pérez. For the 14-year-old, this is the second 9a route of his young climbing career.

David Bermudez is definitely one of Spain's up-and-coming young climbers. After Esclatamasters in Perles he succeeds with Victimas Perez in Margalef already the second route in the ninth French degree.

After falling three times in the final crux, after four days on the route the time had finally come.

Quick ascent

The 14-year-old traveled to Margalef with a clear goal in mind: to climb Víctimas Pérez. The route that climbing legend Chris Sharma drilled and that Ramon Julián was able to climb for the first time in 2008 had been in his mind for a long time, says David Bermúdez.

However, the start of his trip to Margalef didn't go according to plan: the Madrilenian was sick for the first few days and therefore out of shape. “After I recovered, I was able to make quick progress on the route.”

The 14-year-old says he is very happy with his ascent, especially since Víctimas Pérez is a very special route for him.

“The fact that I was able to climb it so quickly motivates me a lot to continue doing what I enjoy most and to tackle the next projects with enthusiasm.”
