Danger in the Murgtal bouldering area after a violent storm

In view of the golden weather forecast for the upcoming weekend, many climbing enthusiasts will be drawn to the rocks. In the Murg Valley, the popular bouldering area in eastern Switzerland, the authorities are advising against a visit after the intense storm.

Silvan Dermond, author of the Murgtal bouldering guide, speaks clear words: "Due to the severe storms of the past few days, the local authorities advise against staying in the forest around the municipality of Murg (even in good weather).

Murgtal: battering under tension

According to the local authorities, the greatest danger comes from windblown wood:

The popular chestnut forests in Murg pose a danger to people, especially due to falling branches and the storm timber, some of which is under tension.

Municipality of Quarten

For this reason, the affected areas should be avoided at the moment. In addition, it will be clarified as quickly as possible to what extent the storm wood in the Murgbach area has an influence on the water runoff.

Observe driving bans

Last weekend's storm caused some major damage in the municipality of Quarten. Work to fix this started on Monday. According to the announcement, work would continue in particular to free the locally blocked roads from storm wood in the next few days so that they could be opened to traffic again.
