The professional climber and alpinist Filip Babicz sets a new speed record in the Mont Blanc massif: He scales the Grand Capucin rope-free in just 49 minutes. The standard time for the 570 meter high wall is eight hours.
A heavy rock fall occurred at the Arête des Cosmiques on the Mont Blanc massif earlier this week. Numerous rope teams on the south face of the Aiguille du Midi witnessed the massive rock avalanche. Climber Nick Lozica even captured the event on camera.
For the virtual reality documentary "Alex Honnold: The Soloist VR", the most well-known solo climber of his time climbed rope-free through large walls in Europe and the USA, including the Yellow Wall on the Kleine Zinne, Desert Gold in the Red Rocks or large parts the American Direct at the Petit Dru.
At the end of January, Line van den Berg from the Netherlands and Fay Manners from the UK climbed Phantom Direct in a single push in 31 hours. With this venture, they not only secure the first women-only ascent of the route, also known as 'Via in memoria di Gianni Comino'. They are probably only the fourth rope team to have successfully repeated this route from 1985.
