Ondra upgrades Boulder: "I hope I don't just get old"

Adam Ondra has secured the first repeat of Martin Stráník's boulder The End of the World (8B) in Mladkov, Czech Republic. Since the first ascent in 2008, the rock-hard line remained unrepeated - until Adam Ondra came along and, for once, upgraded it instead of downgrading it.

"I think that Martin completely underestimated his strength at that time and therefore rated the wonderful boulder The End of the World as 8B," says Adam Ondra after his successful completion.

However, Martin Stráník's line has a reputation for being significantly harder. Adam Ondra also felt this way and, in an uncharacteristic manner for him, suggested an upgrade to 8B+:

I'm known for devaluing things, but in this case I'm opting for an upgrade. I hope I'm not just getting old.
