Finger trainer, finger dumbbell or hand gripper - the training tools are known by different names. Can they be used to replace endurance training on the go? Lattice Coach Josh Hadley did the self-test and squeezed for 30 days - up to 25000 times a week.
Many climbers will occasionally use a hand gripper while driving, at work or watching TV on the sofa. There are hardly any studies on the effectiveness of this form of training. This led Lattice Coach Josh Hadley to do a little self-test.
In this 30-day experiment, he wanted to find out whether a hand gripper could simulate the muscular stimulus achieved during a basic endurance session (eg long periods of low-intensity climbing). Small spoiler: The result is actually quite surprising.
