On February 3, 2025, Will Bosi succeeded in repeating one of the most difficult sport climbing routes in the world: Excalibur (9b+). Exactly two years to the day after the first ascent by Stefano Ghisolfi.
The route Excalibur is located in the Italian bow and was originally set up by Christian Dorigatti and Morris Fontanari. For serious project work, however, they invited Ghisolfi because they knew that this line would be difficult, very difficult.
I am confident to propose the difficulty level 9b+, this time I have no doubts about it.
Stefano Ghisolfi
For Stefano Ghisolfi, it was clear in 2023 that Excalibur was the most difficult ascent of his career up to that point, which is why he suggested 9b+ as the difficulty level with a clear conscience.
Stefano Ghisolfi's path to Excalibur
Short, steep, strong
The Excalibur route is extremely steep and finger-heavy, but at the same time relatively short. The line doesn't leave much room for error. Razor-sharp ledges, small dents and holes have to be precisely navigated, while extremely technical hooks make the interaction even more complicated.
Wow! I'm lost for words. What an incredible route, what a journey.
Will Bosi
Bosi has been planning the route for a long time and regularly reported on his progress on social media. A few hours ago he announced that he had succeeded in redpointing the route, making it only the second time he has done so, on Monday, February 3, 2025.
