Old, rusty or unsafe equipment, belay connections made of worn-out pieces of rope or an overgrown route - there are many reasons to renovate a climbing route on the rock. But who makes sure that the equipment is replaced professionally and that the character of the route is maintained? And who finances the whole thing?
To find answers to these questions, Petzl accompanied the Swiss association Rebolting, which is dedicated to the restoration of old climbing routes and supports climbers in the restoration work.
Members of the association provide insights into the renovation work in the Engelhörner climbing garden and at the Gemschiflueh "Chästeleit". The filmmakers also meet Michel Piola and Daniel Anker, who opened up the "Le Chant du Cygne" route on the Eiger North Face in 1991, to talk about a possible renovation of this historic route.
