Ski touring and freeride festival in Pontresina | Backcountry Weeks 2025

The Backcountry Weeks will take place in Pontresina from March 28th to 30th, 2025. At the event, participants have the opportunity to take part in various courses and guided tours. The offer is aimed at beginners as well as advanced riders. We are giving away a one-day ticket for the event.

The Backcountry Weeks are an annual festival for winter sports enthusiasts who want to get away from the groomed slopes. In 2025, Go Vertical Guides will celebrate their 10th anniversary with their series of events with the tour stop in Pontresina. The first tour stop in Davos is already history for this winter and took place at the end of January. We are giving away a one-day ticket for the Backcountry Week in Pontresina from March 28th to 30th in Pontresina.

Courses and tours offered

During the Backcountry Weeks, participants have the opportunity to take part in various courses and guided tours that are suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. The offer in Pontresina includes:

  • Ski tours (easy, medium and difficult): Depending on your level, you can register for your appropriate skill level and climb the mountains around Pontresina with touring skis.
  • Splitboard tours (easy, medium, challenging): If you prefer to enjoy the descent on one board rather than two, our splitboard tours are perfect for you. There is a suitable group for every level.
  • avalanche courses (basic and advanced): In small groups we cover topics such as interpretation of the avalanche bulletin, terrain assessment, rescue and tour planning.
  • Freeride courses (ski and splitboard, basic and advanced): When freeriding, the focus is on the descent, we only make short ascents and use the cable cars to find the best slopes and the best snow.
  • Ski tour Piz Palü: Challenging ski tour on the almost 4 meter high Piz Palü for all experienced ski tourers. Strong splitboarders welcome!
  • Ski mountaineering course: Learn the basics of ski touring on the glacier in small groups. We focus on rope techniques, crampon techniques and crevasse rescue.

The exact course contents and other offers can be found on the official Backcountry Weeks website.

schedule and Festival Village

The day begins in the morning in the Festival Village directly in Pontresina with coffee and croissants. Due to the spring conditions, we usually start early in Pontresina, which is why it makes sense to equip yourself with the desired test equipment in the Festival Village the evening before (test equipment is included in the ticket). All groups then come together again in the Festival Village after the tours and courses. Here you can get advice from the partners about the equipment, a cold beer and something delicious to eat, and a great community for exchanging ideas after an eventful day in the mountains.

Registration and Participation

The number of participants for the courses and tours is limited, and the offers will take place with a minimum of three participants. Test material is included in the price, but it is recommended that you bring your own material if you have it. If you have special requests or questions about test or rental material, interested parties can contact the organizers directly.

Registration for the Backcountry Weeks takes place via the official website. There you will also find detailed information about the individual courses, dates and prices.

The Go Vertical Guides Backcountry Weeks offer an ideal opportunity to expand your own backcountry skills, test new equipment and exchange ideas with like-minded people. Those who cannot take part in Pontresina can also look forward to the 10-year anniversary in Davos, which will take place in winter 2026, from January 29 to February 1, 2026.
