The 16-year-old climber Lukas Sager succeeds in the red point ascent of one of the most difficult multi-pitch routes in Switzerland: Yeah Man (8b +, 300m) in the Gastlosen.
A year ago, Lukas Sager made international headlines. At the age of 15 he managed to climb an 8c route, by name 5 Uve at Arco. Since then, his tick list has grown by three more 8c's and 36 routes in the 8a to 8b+ range. He climbed most of these routes in the Spanish sports climbing mecca of Margalef, where he spent a lot of time in the 2020 pandemic year.
From the sports climbing garden to the Gastlosen
Recently he was drawn to the hospitality. The mountains are known for sport climbing as well as for alpine multi-pitch tours. Luke Sager has set itself the goal of climbing the Gastlosen route Yeah Man in one day red point. Accompanied by his parents, he began to equip the route with fixed ropes and to boulder out the most important passages. After only five days on the route, the young Austrian decided to make serious attempts. That was about a week ago. On Saturday, August 21, 2021, Lukas Sager stood on the summit - after a successful red point ascent of Yeah man (8b +, 300m).
For me it was a tightrope walk between success and failure. After a week it was done!
