Last Saturday, Martin Feistl died in a mountain accident in the Wetterstein Mountains. For unknown reasons, the 27-year-old fell on the south face of the Scharnitzspitze, where he was traveling without a rope.
Martin Feistl, aspiring top alpinist, aspiring mountain guide and former member of the DAV expedition squad, had a fatal accident last Saturday while climbing in the Wetterstein Mountains.
He was traveling rope-free in the area of the Spitzestätter Route on the Scharnitzspitze south face. According to a report from the Tyrol State Police Department, he fell from a height of around 40 meters onto a ledge at the foot of the wall.
Aspiring all-round climber
With Martin Feistl, mountain sports have lost a gifted climber and alpinist. The 27-year-old was a member of the DAV expedition squad from 2016 to 2018 and in the following years he repeatedly attracted attention with ascents of difficult and demanding multi-pitch tours as well as ice and mixed lines.
With routes like Stalingrad (1000m, M8, WI7), Fear Control (800m, M8, WI6) or Victimes des étique(ttes) (110m, M10, WI3) he made a name for himself as a purist first ascent with a preference for traditional protection.
