Jakob Schubert will not be participating in the World Cup in Innsbruck due to a long-term finger injury. The decision was particularly difficult for the six-time world champion, considering he won the Austrian National Championships just last week.
Despite the intensive rehabilitation measures of the last months, Jakob Schubert unable to take part in the competition. This was particularly annoying as it would have been a home game – the World Cup in Innsbruck brought the Austrian two World Cup victories and one World Championship gold (in 2018) in recent years.

The closer I push myself to the limit, the more the injury limits me.

The decisive factor for the short-term cancellation was the prospect of a new, promising treatment method that the climber developed together with a German sports doctor. After previous treatment attempts failed to provide lasting improvement, Schubert now expects a long-term recovery.

I hope that this decision today will allow me to attack fully again next time.

We will miss Jakob Schubert at the competition and wish him all the best for his continued recovery and a strong comeback.
