Janja Garnbret wins the Boulder World Cup in InnsbruckHer victory was clear from the semi-final, where she finished as the best. Nevertheless, the final was anything but entertaining: It was only on the fourth and last boulder that it became clear that the Slovenian dominator could take home another gold medal. A highly emotional moment, also for Janja Garnbret.
"I was a bit stressed today, to be honest," the Slovenian revealed after the final. She said she had a lot of fun in the semi-final, which was very tough. That's exactly what she trains for.
"The final felt a little easier, but I had to stay focused until the end. And I'm glad I made it and I'm glad about the difficult last boulder."
Youngsters step on the gas
In addition to the long-time competition dominator, two young athletes climbed onto the podium at the IFSC Boulder World Cup in Innsbruck. Garnbret's teammate Jennifer Eucharia Buckley is just 17 years old and celebrated her debut on the big World Cup stage in Innsbruck. Third-placed Anastasia Sanders from the United States is sixteen.
Janja Garnbret also noticed the rebellion of the younger generation and said: "It would be sad if nobody attacked me." She just always tries to stay concentrated and focused in order to beat them.
Both youngsters finished the final with three tops and three zones. Since the Slovenian Buckley needed one attempt less than her US rival, she was able to celebrate a silver medal in her World Cup debut.
Just outside the medal ranks was Japan's Nakamura Mao, who achieved her best result to date in a World Cup competition by finishing fourth. Tokyo 2020 Olympian Jessica Pilz of Austria finished fifth and Fanny Gibert of France took sixth place.
