The generation change in competitive climbing is slowly but surely emerging. The 16-year-old Japanese secured himself in the bouldering qualification of the Sport Climbing World Championships Sonrato Anraku as one of the youngest participants with the best result, the ticket for the next round.

He topped as did his teammate Yoshiyuki Ogata all five qualifying boulders. The young Frenchman also started with a strong performance Sam Avezou in the most important competition of the year. He shares third place at the end of qualifying Kokoro Fujii and Yannick Flohe, who was the only other climber who was able to solve all the bouldering problems.

After the last World Cups, I tried to take a little break. After Villars I was pretty burned out and the structured training helped me to find my focus again. Now I feel really good

The four-time climbing world champion Jakob Schubert survived the qualifying round without any problems. With 4 tops and 5 zones he moves into the semi-finals in 7th place. Team and training mate Nicolai Uznik, the 2022 European bouldering champion, secured his semi-final ticket with three tops and four zones.

Qualifying was amazing and the crowd gave it their all. All my friends and family cheered for the Swiss team at the biggest event of the year. I'm so happy, I have goosebumps all over.

Adam Ondra: At the last minute

Probably not entirely happy with his performance Adam Ondra have been. The strong Czech only topped 2 of the 5 qualifying boulders and threatened to be eliminated in this phase of the competition. At the end of the day, his 2 tops and 5 zones were enough for him to qualify last for the semifinals, where the cards will be reshuffled again.
