So far boulder enthusiastic Eastern Swiss have made their pilgrimage to the St. Gallen climbing gym (Abtwil) or to the Sparta Bouldering in the Rhine Valley, sometimes even to Vorarlberg, to train on plastic handles. On the 15. September 2018 opens its doors to a new bouldering hall: the boulder lounge in the city of St. Gallen.
"Today the wood for the walls was delivered", Lena Stürm tells us enthusiastically. It is she who, together with her brother Johannes Fiedler, came up with the idea for a bouldering hall two years ago. Since then, numerous locations have been checked, concepts written and refined until the idea turned into a feasible project.
Largest bouldering hall in the St. Gallen region
The bouldering lounge at the former location of the City Garage offers its visitors a combination of classic bouldering problems, a children's area and a training area. As the initiators report to LACRUX, the bouldering lounge with an area of 630 square meters will be the largest bouldering hall in the St. Gallen region. Johannes also assures: "We fix the bouldering problems every month so that there is enough variety."
Access outside opening hours
The bouldering hall is open on weekdays from 13.30 p.m. to 23.00 p.m. (Mondays from 10.00 a.m.) and on weekends from 10.00 a.m. to 20.00 p.m. "Our half-year and annual members have access to the hall from 07.00 am, even before the hall officially opens," explains Lena. The prices of the hall are comparable to other Swiss bouldering halls. The normal single entry into the Boulder lounge costs for adults 18 CHF. Those who can set themselves up in time and go to the hall in front of 15.00 o'clock benefit from the early tariff: 15 CHF.
