Janja Garnbret climbs iron sit (8C) – twice!

A good two years ago, Janja Garnbret climbed the Boulder Iron (8B+). She recently returned to the Malta Valley to complete the 8C seat start. In true Janja Garnbret style, it took her less than half an hour to decipher the trains and get through Iron Sit (8C).

Repeated as the first woman Janja Garnbret the 8C boulder Iron sit im Malta Valley. The Slovenian high-flyer needed less than half an hour to climb. Fun fact: Since she wasn't satisfied with her trainer's video, she climbed the line again.

I'm proud to be the first woman to achieve iron sit (8C)!

Janja Garnbret: “The dream boulder is done”

Like in March 2022, when Janja Garnbret tested Klem Loskot's 8B+ test piece on International Women's Day Iron repeated, she also climbed the 8C rated seat start version of Nalle Hukkataival with impressive ease.

After committing iron, she waited for the right time for her revenge with iron, Garnbret said. “And today was the day!”

I came back much stronger and the movements felt much easier than they did back then.

This was shown, among other things, by the fact that the strong Slovenian needed less than half an hour to iron sit (8C). Furthermore, she climbed the heavily overhanging line that had turned away many world-class climbers with more than impressive body control.

Sixth woman in grade 8C sits with an iron

With her ascent of the iron sit, Janja Garnbret joins the illustrious group of 8C conquerors.

So far only five athletes have managed to crack bouldering grade 8C: Ashima Shiraishi with Horizon (2016), Kathrin Lehmann with Kryptos (2018), Mishka Ishi with Byaku-dou (2019), Oriane Bertone with Satan I Helvete sit (2020) and Katie Lamb with Box Therapy (2023)
