Bernd Zangerl publishes a guide to bouldering in the Himalayas: »Rakchham«

When people think of the Himalayas, they probably primarily associate them with peaks over 8.000 meters high. But mountaineering isn't the only mountain sport you can practice there: After many years of work, Tyrolean professional climber Bernd Zangerl has now published a guide to bouldering in the region.

For some years now Bernd Zangerl repeatedly travels in the Himalayas – not to tackle the 14 eight-thousanders, but to explore the area around the village Rakchham to establish climbing and bouldering as popular sports. Now, this Tyrolean veteran has published a guidebook of the same name for the region. The book will be available from November 7th.

Hidden bouldering paradise in the Himalayas

The small village Rakchham It lies at almost 3.000 meters at the end of the Sangla Valley in India HimalayasThe people there live from agriculture and animal husbandry – a life defined by traditions and nature. Bernd Zangerl spent over four years there among the people and the mountains. During this time, one of the largest bouldering areas in the Himalayas was created.

The result of a lifelong journey – and many years of intensive exploration and preparation.

The region should be protected despite the visitors.

Our Over 560 bouldering problems in 14 sectors The area has quietly and steadily developed into one of the most breathtaking and diverse climbing destinations in the world. "There are projects for beginners as well as for top climbers," says Bernd Zangerl.

To prevent Rakchham from suffering the fate of other climbing and bouldering hotspots, the 47-year-old professional climber has relied on a sustainable concept from the outset. A permit system ensures that only a limited number of people are allowed to climb there at any one time. Registration and booking are handled exclusively through a Website , which also provides information on accommodations. "Because homestays or hotels are limited, this restricts the number of guests who can be in the region at any one time," says Zangerl.
