Peter von Känel and Chrigel Maurer climb all 82 four-thousand-meter peaks in 51 days

On June 11th they reached the first 30m peak on their list, the Aletschhorn, and on July 4000th the Jungfrau was the last. This means that Chrigel Maurer and Peter von Känel needed only 51 days to climb all 82 four-thousand-meter peaks in the Alps on foot, on skis or by paraglider.

The duo had set themselves a maximum time frame of 72 days for their mega project. In the end, Peter von Kaenel and Chrigel Maurer the ascent of all 82 four-thousanders the Alps much faster: On Tuesday, 51 days after their takeoff, they will land back at their starting point in Frutigen.

On foot, on skis or by paraglider

For their XPeaks project, Peter von Känel and Chrigel Maurer had previously imposed 10 rules on themselves, which, for example, set out the time frame or defined the type of transport. They wanted to climb the peaks only on foot, on skis or by paraglider and to forego other means of transport such as cable cars or bicycles. The aim of the two: to be the first to climb all 4000-meter peaks in the Alps in this way.

The fact that they chose the paraglider as their main means of transport is not just for practical reasons: Chrigel Maurer is considered a luminary in this sport and has underlined this several times with his victories in international competitions such as the Red Bull X-Alps. The mountain guide, alpinist and aviation engineer Peter von Känel also has a lot of experience as a paraglider competition pilot for several years. The perfect combo, as it turned out.
