A massive landslide occurred on the Flughorn massif in Tyrol on Sunday afternoon. Around 100 meters of rock from the 3400 meter high southern summit were torn away and thundered down in the area of the north-west flank.
In the Silvretta group in the municipality of Galtür there was a massive on Sunday afternoon rockslide happened. The approximately 3400 meter high southern summit of the escape horn-Massif has partially broken away. According to the local mountain rescue service, around 100 meters of rock fell from the summit towards the Jamtalhütte down into the valley.

The huge scree avalanche poured out over a length of two kilometers. The rupture of the rock masses triggered a torrent that rushed past a mountain hut only a few minutes later. The disappearing permafrost ice in the rock is suspected to be the cause of the massive natural event.
